project allocations

The big day. PROJECT ALLOCATIONS… when everyone finds out where and with whom they will be working. Julian, Ross and Sabrina have been watching how the 30+ project managers work together over the last few weeks setting field base, learning new skills etc. We also need a split on medics, age, physical ability and temperament and a number of people to remain on fieldbase to support the projects, deliver supplies, respond to emergencies etc..

Projects are divided into 3 categories:  environmental, community and adventure (or trek).  During phase 1 there will be a total of  11 teams as follows:

Alpha 1: Turrimacho Trek… Carwyn Thomas and Jenny Willcocks

Alpha 2: The Guanacaste Trek… Andres Chavalazo and Tom Blindell

Alpha 3: The Miratombo Trek… John Rush and Ruth Jahn

Alpha 4: Volcan Turrialba / Braulio… Carmen Gaskell and Niall McElroy

Alpha 5: La Cangreja – Building a trail for wheelchair users… Veronica Flores and Connor Gracey

Alpha 6: Apantes – Miraflor Preschools project… Claire Davies and Cameron Bower

Alpha 7: Quebrada Honda – gravity-fed water project… Margarita Pordo, Catherine Crowther and Laura Salmon

Delta 1: Playa Hermosa – Tree planting and turtle conservation… Megan Bowe and Andy Brown

Delta 2: Camaronal – turtle conservation… Siew-Ling Harrison, Wendy Miller and Yali Gonzales

Delta 3: Bajo Chirripo Indigenous Reserve – Community Centre … Natasha Perez, Nick Healey and me 🙂  Not the school project I had originally hoped for but just as worthwhile and needed by the community. Very happy and very excited to be working with the Cabecar Indians.

Delta 4: Chirripo –  Primary School project …Helena Alvaroz, Hayley Rust and Reggie Lang

Next step is pre-project planning visits and another week of training (with a bit of chilling thrown in… river rafting, swimming and stocking up on last minute essentials) before the venturers arrive and we start passing on all the knowledge we have learnt to them, in preparation for the start of the projects and treks.
